IKEA Releases Breaking Matter Update to DIRIGERA Hub

Swedish furnishing giant IKEA released a new firmware update on Monday for its DIRIGERA Hub, which greatly extends Matter support for more devices.

This latest update, version 2.615.8, follows the addition of Matter support for lights in April this year, addressing the previous absence of Matter compatibility across most of IKEA’s smart home product lineup.

Notably, IKEA becomes the first major smart home vendor to offer Matter support for air purifiers and air quality sensors via a Matter Bridge, setting it apart from competitors like Aqara and Eve, who have yet to provide Matter support for similar devices.

With this update, the STARKVIND air purifier and VINDSTYRKA air quality sensor can now be integrated with Home Assistant, Apple Home, and SmartThings via Matter.

Release Notes:
DIRIGERA Hub version 2.615.8
Maintenance release, plus extended support of device types via Matter Bridge for:

  • Lights, including Drivers
  • Smart plugs/outlets
  • Connected blinds
  • Remotes
  • Motion sensors
  • Open/close sensors
  • Air purifiers and Air quality sensors

Additionally, we found that light sensors within the VALLHORN Wireless Motion Sensor are now exposed to Matter platforms, alongside the occupancy stats. But the older TRADFRI model only has occupancy sensor available.

The update also introduces support for scene buttons, including the TRADFRI Shortcut Button and the newly launched Somrig Shortcut Button, both known for their affordable price tags and excellent design. However, major Matter platforms still face challenges in handling press events as scene triggers.

What’s Still Missing?

• Some remotes, including dimmers and Sonos speaker controls, have not yet been updated.
• BADRING water leakage sensors, introduced in Matter 1.3, are also not supported yet.

IKEA DIRIGERA has yet to obtain a Matter certification from the Connectivity Standards Alliance and marks the feature as “Beta” since its initial launch.
